Dress: The Limited

Tights: We Love Colors

Socks: New York & Company

Boots: Steve Madden

Bracelet: The Limited

It was a tiny bit warmer today (upper 50's) but still overcast and gray, so it was the perfect weather to pull out this new sweater dress. I originally planned to belt it but then I realized it's kind of short and belting it made it a little too scandalous for church! So I nixed the belt idea.

I opted to try knee socks under my boots and I gotta say, I kind of like it. I wasn't so sure at first but it really grew on me! Definitely a good option for the really cold weather to come later this week!

Cardigan: The Limited

Tank: New York & Company

Skirt: Banana Republic

Shoes: Aldo Shoes

I cleaned out my closet yesterday and ran across several items that I'd completely forgotten about. Now I've got outfits for the whole week planned!

First up was this tank top. When I bought it, I envisioned wearing it with a coral cardigan, to bring out the fun oranges in the top. However when I started styling it yesterday, I realized that when you put on long sleeves, it covers every bit of the pretty coral color. Boo.

So I got adventurous and mixed brown and gray. I've never tried that before and I think I'm kind of liking it. Although looking at the picture now, I kind of wish I'd added a belt over the skirt.

I have a business dinner after work tonight that might result in some consulting work for me. YAY! I wanted to look stylish and polished but still business appropriate. I think this animal print top (which I also topped with a little black cardi to ward off the fall chill) strikes just the right balance.

I am also loving the mix of black and brown. That's not something I've ever played around with before. I dig it.

I stayed up way too late last night watching the Boys in Blue whoop up on the Giants. Even though it was safe to hit the hay at bed time (17-0!), I was having too much fun watching Peyton & Co charge down the field like a well-oiled machine!

What wasn't working like a well-oiled machine this morning? That would me. After Weekend #3 out of town, this chick is dragging tail in a major way. Hence the simple I-don't-want-to-think-about-matching-palettes outfit today. Basic neutrals + ruffles + animal print = good enough for me today.

It's been a wee bit cooler here the last two days and you know what that means? It's almost football time!

I can't wait to sport the Volunteer Orange every weekend from now until December, so I decided to start the party a little bit early by pairing this white and brown giraffe print skirt with some orange. The bold combination is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I'm pleased with how it turned out!

We all know I'm all about the animal print and this giraffe print at LOFT was calling my name in a loud, insistent voice! I held out until it was on super clearance and I'm so glad they still had my size!

Once again, giving the belted look a try. I liked it a lot last time, but not too sure about this go round. I feel like my hips look wider in these brown slacks. But it was worth giving it a shot again and getting out of my comfort zone!

I had a 'Welcome to the Company' introduction with the Chief Procurement Officer for my new company today, so of course I wanted to dress to impress. It was a fabulous meeting and if he's really believes half of what he espouses, he and I will get along famously.

I love the unexpected color combination in this tweed suit. It's totally outside of my normal comfort zone but I think it's a fun way to get dressed up when necessary. My closet is full of basic black suiting pieces, so it's nice to look in that section and see a bit of color now!

So far I am loving nearly everything about my new job. The only exception? No casual Fridays. Ever.

As in no denim. No Volunteer orange every Friday during football season.

I love to get dressed up as much as the next girl, but I sure am going to miss denim on Fridays!

Not to be deterred, I inserted just a tiny bit of 'casual' into my business appropriate Friday look. I think ankle pants are just a bit more relaxed than regular trousers.

I also decided to step outside of my comfort zone and mix brown and black. I was inspired by the leopard print top, which has black spots surrounded by brown. It's hard to tell in the full-length picture, but my shoes are crocodile embossed brown pumps. It's not much mixing, but it's a baby step in that direction. I like it!

I had a pretty full day planned for today. Lots of preparations for our vacation next week. The last two weeks of time off have just flown by and I still feel like I have so much left to do before we leave on Friday.

I wish I had taken a close up picture of this top. It has the sweetest ruffle at the neckline, but the color makes it hard to see in the picture. I love the color of this top and the drapey effect around the waist.

My heels are a recent score at Macy's Extra 50% off sale. I love my leopard print peep toes and really wanted a closed-toe version to wear when the weather is cold. I was so stoked when I found these Alfani's for $20 (originally $89!).

The temperature is hovering in the fifties again today, so I had to pull out the long sleeves again. Let me tell you, I am so not okay with this crazy weather. I want to wear shorts! tank tops! maxi dresses! sandals! Not tights and long sleeves! Boo, Spring.

I had a bunch of errands to knock out today so I decided to keep it simple and warm since I knew I'd be running around in the wind and the chill. Fun bejeweled flats for comfort and I was out the door!

How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Hopefully better than ours lately!

Hey, hey, it's my birthday!

And who doesn't want to look killer on their birthday? I loved the color of this dress the moment I saw it at The Limited and when it went on sale recently, I snapped it up immediately! It came with a much skinnier brown belt which I switched out for this fun patent leather version instead.

I discovered that I have no brown summery pumps (hello, shopping!) so I went with this fun yellow combination instead.

I started my short-term contract position today. No one got back to me on my question about the dress code, so I kind of just winged it. Found a nice middle of the road look - not too business-y and not too casual. Turns out their isn't much of a dress code, so I needn't have worried!

It was chilly and rainy again today, so I thought I'd sneak in one more wearing of these fun tweed trousers. I decided to balance the masculine slacks with a light-weight ruffled sweater. I felt feminine but confident. Perfect for a first day!

Our church just recently started a Thursday night service to reach out to those who might not be able to attend a Sunday morning service. I volunteered to greet on the first Thursday of every month. I wasn't sure quite how to dress for a Thursday night service. Our church is kind of casual, even on Sundays, but I always feel a little weird wearing jeans to church!

I chose to err on the side of dressier casual. I love this leopard print sleeveless top and wear it all year round. It combines two of my favorite things - animal print and ruffles. What else could a girl ask for?

I love the look of winter white - so elegant and classy. For some reason it always reminds me of Audrey Hepburn. I have absolutely no idea why.

Too bad for me my skin tone is also winter white, which makes it hard to pull off actually wearing it! Instead of looking elegantly winter-ish, I look more ghostly Halloween-ish.

I bought these brown and cream slacks for a song recently and knew they'd look perfect with my favorite winter white sweater - pale skin be hanged! I wish I'd taken a close up of the pants. They are a heavy nubby tweed. Perfect for the cold, windy weather we had on Sunday.

Looking at this outfit almost makes me miss dressing up for the office. Almost.

We went to the local elementary school carnival this evening and then out to a late dinner date. Yes, I know it's weird that we went to the carnival when we, um, don't have any kids, let alone school age ones, but what can I say? We love our neighbor kids who invited us. That, and I really wanted a cake at the cakewalk. Except this school carnival didn't have a cakewalk. Hello? What kind of school carnival doesn't have a cakewalk? I had to settle for a cupcake from the bake sale instead. Probably better for my waistline anyway.

On to the fashion part of the post. That is why you are here, right? My new flat brown boots are making their debut today. I got many fabulous options from you guys when I mentioned the Great Boot Hunt of 2010. It's amazing how a little challenge brings the lurkers out of the woodwork! While no one suggested these particular boots, several of you sent me links to boots on Endless.com (one of my favorite sites!) and while browsing those links, I ran across these. They are a little more burgundy than what I originally envisioned, but I loved the stud details on the back. And they had my size. And they were on sale. I actually ordered these and a pair of Steve Madden's, but the SM's turned out to be too small. That's the fabulous thing about Endless - free shipping and returns, so you're never afraid to take a risk and order something that you're not entirely sure about! A few of my other favorite online stores should consider this policy - I'm looking at you, Victoria's Secret!
